While watching an episode of "Confessions of a Travel Writer" I was introduced the the travel guide site Jaunted.com
Billed as the "Pop Culture Travel Guide" this site is designed with a younger edgier traveler in mind.
There are a number of entries for New Zealand check 'em out.
